Separate money raised from company value
A company raising $300 million has not necessarily been valued at $300 million. A funding announcement may state an amount raised and a separate pre-money or post-money valuation. The site’s source checks require the proposed number to describe company valuation rather than merely a financing amount. An offering notice, revenue figure or market opportunity estimate does not supply the missing company valuation.
A single headline can describe different securities
A fund may own preferred shares, common shares, a vehicle interest or another instrument. A financing round can price one class while an older holding has different terms. A company-level ratio is therefore a modeling shortcut, not evidence that every security changes value in the same proportion. Our pages expose the ratio and baseline so readers can identify what the estimate assumes and what the dataset cannot resolve.
An illustrative dilution check
Imagine a holder owns 10 of 1,000 shares before a transaction, or 1%. If 250 new shares are issued and the holder receives none, the simple percentage becomes 10 ÷ 1,250 = 0.8%. This deliberately simplified example omits options, convertibles, protections and class rights. It shows why a larger headline company valuation alone does not specify a holder’s ownership fraction or cash proceeds. We do not infer a cap table from a news article.
Corporate actions need entity-level care
A combined group valuation is not automatically a standalone subsidiary valuation. A proposed round is not the same as a completed financing. A source record can remain visible in the research calendar while being excluded from a fund model. The model’s financial effect and the existence of an announcement are separate questions. Read the linked publisher document, its date and the record’s audit status before using a valuation as a model input.
